Recently our very own Lee “The Lumphammer” Wickham stepped into the Ultimate White Collar Boxing ring to raise money for Cancer Research UK .
Lee has undergone 8 weeks of intensive training in the lead up to the event which included an introduction to boxing fitness and techniques. The regime involved boxing training every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday interlaced with steady state runs and speed work every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
On Fight Night, Shorts supported Lee by sponsoring a ring side table where members of the Shorts team and a few invited guests were on hand to cheer him on along with family and friends.
The contest was fought over 3 two-minute rounds with strong blows landed by both opponents and ended with the referee announcing a well earned draw.
Despite a broken rib Lee said, “It was hard work but thinking of friends and family that have been affected by cancer pushed me forwards. I’m never going to find a cure for cancer but the scientists at Cancer Research UK just might with our help”.
