Why Find Santa Matters to Us and Why Your Participation Keeps It Alive.

How the Find Santa Competition Started

Find Santa was launched in 2017, shortly after we introduced an updated website, and the competition was our way of encouraging people to explore it properly. At the time, we needed a better way to help customers understand everything we offer. Some knew us for BKG lifts, others for DMG controllers or spare parts, but many were not aware of the full range of support we provide. We did not yet have the Account Managers we rely on today; direct mail was losing its impact; and the lift industry was moving online.

An online competition made sense. It encouraged people to navigate the website, learn about our different business areas, and enjoy a bit of festive fun at the same time.

At its heart, the Find Santa competition is a festive treasure hunt. Each working day, we release a clue that points to Santa’s location somewhere on our website. The clues are designed to be achievable without being too obvious. If you are not sure of an answer, someone in your office usually will be. Once you have worked out the clue, you visit the website, find Santa and submit your entry for the day. Every successful find gives you a chance to win that day’s prize. The more days you play, the more entries you collect for the grand prize draw, so taking part regularly really does increase your chances.

The Early Manual Years

In the first couple of years, every part of the Find Santa competition was handled manually. Players emailed us to take part, we entered every name by hand, and we sent out every Advent calendar ourselves. We also updated Santa’s location on the website every single day. The industry’s response made the workload worthwhile, and it quickly became clear that this could become something special.

We still send the Advent calendars manually today. Demand has grown significantly this year, and we want to recognise Leah Sykes for keeping up with the volume in challenging circumstances. Her work ensured players received their calendars on time.

Building a Better System

As participation increased, we needed a platform that could cope with more players. Working with our web developers, we created the automated system we use today. It manages registrations, daily entries and Santa’s movements across the site. This allows more people to take part and keeps the competition running smoothly, so we can focus on improving the experience each year.

When the online platform was introduced, we also added a recommend a colleague feature. This allowed players to refer others within their company or wider network. It helped the community grow and rewarded players with extra chances to win for each successful referral. Encouraging people to involve their colleagues has become a fun part of the competition and has helped strengthen the sense of shared participation across the lift industry.

A Tradition in the Lift Industry

Over time, Find Santa has become far more than a way to explore our website. It has become a seasonal tradition in the lift industry. Many players tell us they look forward to it every December because it brings a moment of festive enjoyment into a busy working period.

This sense of community is something we value. It is great to see lift engineers, technicians, office staff and company owners all joining in and sharing the experience.

Why Fairness Matters

We take fairness seriously. The daily draws are random and transparent, and we live-stream the result so players can watch the process in real time. Over the years, we have experimented with prize structures. Sometimes we offered many smaller prizes. This year, we have focused on fewer but higher-value rewards. The prize fund is the largest it has ever been, and the grand prize has increased to £300 with two grand prize winners.

Your Participation Keeps It Going
